PARENT INVOLVEMENT
The link between the home is a very vital one. In order for parents to support their child and to better understand the underlying principals of the Montessori approach to education "Green Gables" will conduct regular parent teacher evenings where we can explore together the development of the child and how home and school can work together in order to make the child's experience at school a positive one.
FREEDOM AND DISCIPLINE
The Montessori philosophy is unique in that it is based on a sensible balance between freedom and structure. If a child is a continuous disturbing factor to others the directress will isolate him/her at a place in a quiet part of the room where he or she can observe the children and it become an object lesson in behaviour far more effective than the words of the teacher could have been. Usually that is all that is needed. If there is a real problem and it persists, it is handled between the teacher with the help of the head teacher. When a situation warrants it, the parents will be notified and asked to come in for a discussion.
CONFERENCES AND REPORTS
Parent conferences are scheduled with the parents of all children in July and December. In addition to these, parents or teachers may call for conferences as the need arises.
